Trade Minister seeks fair solution for sellers and marketplace platforms

Trade Minister Budi Santoso, alongside sellers and marketplace platform representatives, is seeking a fair solution for sellers, platforms, and buyers within the e-commerce ecosystem. Budi gathered input from stakeholders in e-commerce, hoping the meeting would provide key insights for a collective solution. “Certainly, the issues raised cannot be resolved immediately. All feedback has been recorded, and we hope for collective commitment to grow a fair e-commerce ecosystem for platforms, sellers, and consumers,” Budi said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. At the meeting, sellers were given the opportunity to voice the challenges they face in e-commerce operations. Each attendee shared their grievances regarding platform usage. Budi noted the variety of issues sellers face on platforms, stating these would be addressed through revisions to Minister of Trade Regulation No. 31 of 2023 on Business Licensing, Advertising, Business Development, and Oversight of Business Actors in Trade via Electronic Systems. He also proposed a joint action plan to implement the revised regulation. “We hope stakeholders will collaborate to design an action plan for implementing the revised Permendag No. 31 of 2023,” he added. Budi confirmed the revision of Permendag No. 31 of 2023 has reached the regulatory harmonisation stage, with input from platform and seller representatives in its drafting. The regulation covers aspects such as protecting local products and ensuring transparency on digital platforms. “We want local products to thrive. If they succeed and are of good quality, we can better control imports. Our system must support local products,” he added.
