Trade Minister: Consumer Confidence Remains Optimistic During Eid Period
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Budi Santoso reported that consumer confidence in the national economy remained at an optimistic level in February 2026, in line with the increased consumption activity among the public during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr period. Based on data from Bank Indonesia’s Consumer Survey, the Consumer Confidence Index (IKK) for February 2026 was recorded at 125.2, placing it in the optimistic zone. According to Budi, this figure reflects the public’s persistently positive perception of the current economic conditions and future prospects. “Data from Bank Indonesia’s Consumer Survey in February 2026 indicates that consumer confidence in the economy remains strong,” Budi stated during a press conference on “The Impact of Eid al-Fitr on Trade and Tourism” at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday. Budi explained that the strong consumer confidence is supported by the Current Economic Index (IKE), which currently stands at 115.9. This figure is higher than the previous month’s reading of 115.1. This shows that public assessments of economic conditions and purchasing power remain stable. Additionally, the Consumer Expectations Index (IEK) is also at an optimistic level, at 134.4. In line with the rising consumer optimism, retail sales performance in February 2026 is expected to experience growth both annually and monthly. The Real Sales Index in February 2026 increased by 6.9 percent year-on-year. On a monthly basis, retail sales in February 2026 rose by 4.4 percent, in line with the increase in public demand during Ramadan and preparations for Eid. “This retail sales performance is driven by increased sales in the majority of groups, particularly the spare parts and accessories group, other household equipment, and the clothing sub-group,” Budi explained.
