Trade Minister Budi Santoso has stressed that the government is maintaining the highest retail price (HET) for the people’s cooking oil, Minyakita, at Rp15,700 per litre. According to Budi, the government’s focus is on strengthening Minyakita distribution to make it more accessible to the public, particularly through traditional markets. “To date, there has been no increase in the HET for Minyakita; it remains Rp15,700 per litre,” Budi said in a statement in Jakarta on Thursday. Distribution strengthening is being carried out through state-owned food enterprises, namely Perum Bulog and ID FOOD. He expressed hope that this step would expand distribution reach while maintaining the availability and affordability of Minyakita prices across various regions. According to Budi, the government remains committed to maintaining cooking oil price stability while ensuring better distribution. “We are currently focusing on Minyakita distribution to traditional markets through food SOEs such as Bulog and ID FOOD. We hope Minyakita will become increasingly available in markets,” Budi said. Budi added that the government will synergise to ensure that cooking oil needs in food assistance programmes can be met using other brands of cooking oil products. In addition, the government is asking producers to increase production of alternative or second-brand cooking oils to accompany Minyakita. The availability of these second-brand cooking oils can further provide consumers with affordable cooking oil options. “We are also asking producers to produce more second-brand cooking oil. Even now, there are already many in traditional markets, not just Minyakita. So it is already easy to obtain,” Budi added.
