Trade minister calls on businesses to provide input for export improvement
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Trade Minister Budi Santoso has opened the door for the business community to submit various inputs regarding efforts to improve national export performance.
Budi conveyed this while opening the 1st National Working Meeting of the Indonesian Export Companies Association (GPEI) 2026 in Jakarta on Monday.
He said the government needs input from business actors to identify and resolve various remaining obstacles that still hamper exports.
“We are open to all input to increase exports. The government and the business community must continue to synergise to create an export ecosystem that is increasingly efficient and competitive. Let us resolve these remaining tasks together,” Budi said in a statement in Jakarta on Monday.
According to him, improving exports cannot rely solely on government policy, but requires close collaboration with the business community as the main actors in international trade.
Budi assessed that the GPEI National Working Meeting forum can serve as an important means to gather input from business actors, particularly regarding the various obstacles faced by exporters in the field.
“Competitiveness involves many factors, for example those concerning deregulation and logistics. We must resolve these together to become more efficient and competitive,” he said.
In addition to regulatory and logistics improvements, the Ministry of Trade continues to strengthen the export ecosystem through a number of programmes, including facilitating the use of trade agreements and providing support for business actors.
The Ministry of Trade has also developed automation of Certificates of Origin to make it easier for exporters to utilise preferential tariffs under trade agreements.
Budi emphasised that business actors should not lose the benefits of trade agreements merely due to limited information or administrative processes.
Strengthening the export ecosystem is also carried out through the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Brave to Innovate, Ready to Adapt for Export (UMKM BISA Ekspor) programme. From January to July 2026, the programme recorded total purchase orders and potential transactions of approximately US$333.68 million.
Around 60-70 percent of the MSMEs facilitated through the programme are business actors who have never exported before.
Budi expressed hope that the synergy between the government and the business community through various forums and facilitation programmes can expand the exporter base while increasing the competitiveness of Indonesian products in the global market.
