Trade Minister Addresses Marketplace Sellers' Complaints, Prepares Revision of Regulation No. 31 of 2023

Jakarta — Minister of Trade Budi Santoso met with sellers and representatives of marketplace service platforms to find joint solutions for sellers, platforms, and buyers in the e-commerce ecosystem. Budi gathered aspirations from stakeholders in the e-commerce sector, hoping the meeting would provide valuable input for collective solutions. “The issues raised cannot be resolved immediately, but all inputs have been recorded and we hope for shared commitment to grow a fair e-commerce ecosystem for platforms, sellers, and consumers,” he said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday, 27 May 2025. Sellers present detailed their complaints while using platforms, with Budi noting the variety of issues faced. According to Budi, these issues can be addressed through a revision of Minister of Trade Regulation No. 31 of 2023, which governs business permits, advertising, development, and supervision of trade actors via electronic systems. Budi also proposed a joint action plan to implement the revised regulation. “We hope for synergy among stakeholders to jointly design an implementation action plan for the revision of Minister of Trade Regulation No. 31 of 2023,” he added. The revision process involves representatives from platforms and sellers. Several aspects of the regulation relate to protecting local products and transparency on digital platforms. “We want local products to thrive. If local products advance and are of good quality, we can better control imports. Our system must support local products,” he said.
