Trade Department Reprimands 1,500 Importers
TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Trade Department said it is evaluating performance of around 1,500 importers for failing to report their activities to the ministry, and began to reprimand the importers to immediately submit their report or they will face import ban.
Import Director of the Directorate General of International Trade Partogi Pangaribuan said on Tuesday his office have sent letters of reprimand to 1,509 importers which import five category of goods; electronic appliances, garments, toys, food and beverage, and footwear. "If there is no response we will revoke their license."
Importers of the five commodities based on Trade Minister Regulation no. 56 of 2008 should ship in their commodities only through five ports from January 1st 2009 to December 31 2010.
Director General of International Trade Diah Maulida said importers should report their activities whether or not they conduct import. “We will see their response,” Diah said.
The ministry said currently there are 3.347 companies who import the five commodities, 1,524 are electronic appliance importers, 495 garment importers, 470 toy importers, 477 food and beverage importers, and 381 footwear importers.
