TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Trade between China and Indonesia during the first half of 2008 amounted to a total US$15 billion.

Deputy Director for the Shanghai Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Commission Wang Qing Jiang said that trade was growing fast as this year it has already surpassed the trade target of US$20 billion.

He said that trade had increased by 31 percent in 2007 and reached US$25 billion, compared to the growth in 2006.

Wang is targeting that trade will reach US$30 billion in 2010.

The export value of Indonesia to China reached US$7.8 billion in 2007 while the import value of China to Indonesia reached US$7.9 billion.

Chinese investment in Indonesia has reached US$8 billion over the last ten years as Chinese investors consider Indonesia to be a prospective and large market.

One trigger has been the holding of exhibitions showing Chinese products in Indonesia and this has helped increase the growth of trade between the two countries.

“The trade value from the exhibitions last year reached US$30 million,” said Wang in Jakarta yesterday (11/8).
