Detikcom traced several locations that had been cited as potential sites of the sighting of the ‘pocong’ on Friday afternoon (22/6/2026). One location ran from Jalan Elpiji Raya toward Jalan Haji Gadung Raya, Pondok Ranji, Ciputat Timur. From several clips uploaded on social media, the sites of the appearance of the ‘pocong’ were in a narrow alley, the road in the alley not very wide and locals fairly crowded in the afternoon. Not far from this alley is the Pertamina Complex, which was also viralled as a location of the pocong appearance. In the complex, specifically on Jalan Yaktapena Raya, many food vendors are selling along the roadside. From detikcom’s survey along the streets, no sign of the ‘pocong’ was found. Detikcom spoke with several street buskers, but none wore a pocong costume. The rumours of the appearance of the ‘pocong’ in the Ciputat Timur area, South Tangerang, had gone viral in recent days. Some netizens claimed to have seen the ‘pocong’ on Jalan Haji Gadung Raya, even gathering in groups of two to three pocong. There were also those who claimed to have seen the ‘pocong’ near their boarding house in the Ciputat Timur area, near the Pertamina Complex. The reports circulating on this Thread have unsettled residents. The story spread rapidly. The police, having been informed of the purported appearance of the ‘pocong’, moved to check the locations in question. ‘We have gone down to the area and spoken to several residents around the location; the pocong issue does not exist,’ said Bambang when contacted by detikcom on Thursday (21/5). Bambang confirmed there was no pocong or ghost figure in the area. Police follow-up indicated that the ‘pocong’ was a street performer cosplaying as a pocong. ‘So there is no pocong; what there is, is a street performer cosplaying as a pocong,’ he said. Bambang added that authorities would also request clarification from the account owner who first spread the issue. He urged the public to verify information before disseminating it on social media. ‘Check the truth before spreading the issue,’ he said. Bambang said the issue has caused upheaval and concern in the community. He also hopes that the public will not be easily swayed by unclear information.
