Traces of the Fake Diploma Case Involving Bangka Belitung Deputy Governor Hellyana
The Deputy Governor of Bangka Belitung (Babel), Hellyana, has been embroiled in a case involving the alleged use of a fake diploma, resulting in her temporary suspension from office by President Prabowo Subianto.
The case began when Hellyana was reported to the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police on Monday, 21 July 2025, by Ahmad Sidik, a student from the University of Bangka Belitung. The report was officially registered under number LP/B/339/VII/2025/SPKT/BARESKRIM POLRI.
Sidik stated that the report was filed due to suspicions regarding Hellyana’s claim of graduating from Azzahra University in 2012. He noted that this claim contradicts data found in the official application of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikti), which shows Hellyana was only recorded as a student at Azzahra University starting in 2013 and was listed as inactive by 2014.
Following the report, the Directorate of General Crimes at Bareskrim Polri interrogated Hellyana as the reported party on two separate occasions. Five months after the initial report, on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, Bareskrim officially named Hellyana a suspect in the use of a fake diploma.
Following her designation as a suspect, Hellyana denied any malicious intent to forge the diploma documents as reported. She claimed the issue stemmed from administrative errors by her university.
