TPS Disturbing Aesthetics and Comfort in DKI Requested to be Closed
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of Commission D of the Jakarta DPRD, Ida Mahmuda, has requested that the DKI Provincial Government close temporary waste disposal sites (TPS) that disturb aesthetics and comfort at several points in the capital.
“Sites like that can be addressed by optimising large-capacity waste management facilities at various points as well,” she said in Jakarta on Friday.
Therefore, her side agrees and strongly supports the relocation of TPS that trouble residents or disrupt the environment.
According to her, the Environmental Agency’s (LH) step to close the waste emplacement at Tanah Kusir Public Cemetery in South Jakarta deserves appreciation, as that TPS disturbed aesthetics and comfort.
Ida assessed that this closure policy could serve as momentum to increase the capacity and equipment for waste management at the TB Simatupang segment waste filter.
In addition, Ida encouraged the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to explore cooperation with the private sector in building modern waste processing facilities, such as intermediate treatment facilities (ITF), especially in West Jakarta.
According to her, limited land owned by the regional government is the main challenge in building ITF in accordance with central government regulations.
She stated that the DKI Regional Government struggles to acquire land that meets the requirements or does not disturb the community.
If there is private involvement, she said, the DKI Regional Government should be able to collaborate to build it, whether through a leasing system or partnership system.
Previously, the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency (LH) permanently closed the temporary waste point (emplacement) at Kali Pesanggrahan, Tanah Kusir Public Cemetery, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, which had been operating since 2014.
“So, as of today, we are closing the emplacement at Tanah Kusir Public Cemetery, and we hope it becomes our commitment to continue preserving the environment,” said the Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto.
Asep, representing the DKI Environmental Agency, also expressed an apology regarding a viral social media post about a garbage truck (mini dump) seen dumping waste into the river.
