TPJ gives aid to six orphanages

JAKARTA (JP): PT Thames PAM Jaya (TPJ), a partner of city- owned tap water company PDAM Jaya, handed over donations worth Rp 15 million on Friday to six orphanages in the capital.

The donations, which were given in conjunction with the firm's first anniversary which fell on Feb. 1, was aimed at helping the orphanages pay tuition fees and buy school supplies, the company said in a statement.

The six orphanages to receive donations were Nurul Zahroh, Pusaka XXVII, Murni Jaya, Al-Mustahiyah, Al-Ikhwan and Al-Husna. All are located in North Jakarta.

The donations were handed over individually by representatives of the firm who visited the orphanages. At Pusaka XXVII orphanage, TPJ's management and staff said Islamic Friday prays with the orphans.

As part of the anniversary celebration, TPJ will also provide scholarships to children of TPJ employees and contract workers.

The one-year scholarships will be given to 150 elementary students, 100 junior high school students and 150 senior high school students.

"We hope our assistance will help reduce the economic burden of our employees and the community amid the current crisis," John Hurcom, TPJ's president, said on Friday. (hhr)
