TP PKK General Chair Urges Protection for Women and Children in Belu, NTT
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Chair of the Family Welfare Empowerment Movement (TP PKK), Tri Tito Karnavian, has urged all parties to provide protection for women and children in Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, from acts of violence.
According to her, in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday, preventing domestic violence (KDRT) as well as physical or verbal sexual harassment against women and children is highly necessary, given that KDRT is generally perpetrated by a superior party, such as a man or the head of the household.
Similarly, acts of sexual harassment against women and children are often committed by those who feel superior. Therefore, preventing KDRT and sexual harassment, whether verbal or physical, is essential.
“The rates of domestic violence or harassment against women and exploitation of children are extraordinarily high. This does not only occur here (in Belu); it happens worldwide with such disturbances. But we stand in our environment, and we must prevent it together,” said Tri during her working visit to Belu Regency, NTT, on Thursday (16/4/2026).
In the context of superiority, Tri encouraged parents to educate boys not to feel superior.
According to her, boys have the same rights and obligations under the law and should not be taught to feel superior.
“Boys are actually the same as girls. They must be educated equally,” she stated.
In addition, she said, girls should not be pressured to accept circumstances but should be taught to boldly say no to things that violate their boundaries.
Girls, she continued, need to be encouraged to fight for their rights and to realise that they have equal opportunities in all aspects of life. Moreover, laws have guaranteed these rights and obligations.
“Educate girls to fight for their rights, to feel safe in their homes, safe in their environment, and to feel that they have equal opportunities in everything,” she emphasised.
Tri stressed that good education for children in Belu Regency will also support the Indonesia Golden Vision 2045 programme.
Children currently attending school, especially at junior and senior high school levels, are expected to become leaders capable of advancing the region.
Furthermore, Belu Regency serves as the frontline of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), bordering Timor Leste.
“I am also obliged to be present here, to give encouragement to all PKK cadres to work hard, to make Belu Regency prepare our children as human resources who will continue the sustainability of the Republic of Indonesia, especially at the border,” said Tri.
During her working visit, Tri held a meeting with PKK cadres through the “Socialisation of Protection for Women and Children from Physical and Verbal Violence and Training on Making and Managing Kemiri Oil Products” activity.
The event, held at the Wanita Betelalenok Building in Belu Regency, NTT, was also attended by Belu Regent Willybrodus Lay, TP PKK Chair of Belu Regency Lidwina Viviawaty Ng Lay, as well as officials from regional apparatus organisations (OPD) and the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda) of Belu Regency.
