TP PKK Chair Encourages Border Weaving SMEs to Level Up During Visit to Motaain PLBN
The Motaain State Border Crossing (PLBN), managed by Indonesia’s National Border Management Agency (BNPP), received a visit from Tri Tito Karnavian, the Chair of the Central Empowering and Family Welfare Movement Team (TP PKK), in Belu, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), on Wednesday (15 April 2026).
The visit served as concrete support for developing micro-enterprises based on local potential in border areas, particularly the distinctive Belu tie-dye woven fabric sector.
The agenda coincided with the implementation of a Human Resources (HR) Capacity Enhancement Training for tie-dye weaving micro-business operators, facilitated by the Assistant Deputy for Land Border Area Potential (PKPD) of BNPP Indonesia.
The programme is aimed at strengthening the economic independence of border communities through improvements in production quality, skills, and the competitiveness of small and medium micro-enterprises (UMKM) based on local wisdom.
During the activities at PLBN Motaain, Tri and her entourage inspected the tie-dye weaving production process, from thread dyeing and pattern making to weaving and product sewing.
As a form of appreciation and support, Tri handed over business capital assistance for UMKM in the form of seven sewing machines and 50 food aid packages to the community around PLBN Motaain.
The aid is expected to encourage increased productivity while strengthening the sustainability of the artisans’ businesses.
The group also toured the service facilities area at PLBN Motaain to directly observe the role of PLBN not only as a state gateway but also as a hub for social and economic activities in border communities.
Meanwhile, Edfrie R Maith, Deputy for Border Area Potential Management at BNPP Indonesia, stated that strengthening UMKM based on local wisdom is a key strategy in building economic independence in border areas.
“PLBN serves as a showcase for superior border potential. With proper guidance, tie-dye weaving UMKM have great opportunities to level up and compete,” he said in a written statement received by Kompas.com on Thursday (16 April 2026).
Maria Fatima Rika, Head of PLBN Motaain, expressed appreciation for the visit and attention given by the TP PKK Central Chair to border communities.
“This presence and support provide great motivation for UMKM actors, especially tie-dye weaving artisans, to continue improving the quality and market value of their products,” she said.
Maria assessed that the training and aid provided align with PLBN Motaain’s efforts to drive local economic growth.
She hopes that this cross-sector synergy can be sustained so that border communities become increasingly independent and competitive.
The visit reaffirms the role of PLBN Motaain as a driving centre for border area development, as well as a showcase for local potential ready to be developed into a new economic strength for the people of Belu and surrounding areas.
