JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Hariez Nalendra (42), owner of a Toyota Veloz Q Hybrid, says he was surprised by the fuel efficiency of his first hybrid car, which has been in use for about one month since delivery.

Having covered around 1,100 kilometres for daily use and out-of-town trips, he finds the Veloz Hybrid’s fuel consumption far lower than his previous car. The Jakarta East resident, who previously used a 2023 Avanza G as his daily operational vehicle, says the main reason for switching to the Veloz Hybrid is its significant fuel efficiency.

He notes that the car’s petrol consumption averages in the range of 18–19.5 kilometres per litre, according to the MID, for urban Jakarta use characterised by heavy traffic. Interestingly, according to Hariez, traffic jams actually make the car more economical because the electric motor works more often than the petrol engine.

“I save about Rp 1.5 million a month. My petrol expenditure used to be around Rp 2 million in the Avanza. Now I only fill up to around Rp 500,000, give or take,” Hariez told Kompas.com (20/05/2026).

In addition to saving, Hariez highlights an improvement in cabin comfort. He assesses the Veloz Hybrid’s ride quality and sound insulation as better than his old car. The cabin feels quieter, especially when the car runs on battery power. External noises such as road noise or rain on the roof are also much reduced.

Another factor that satisfies him is the hybrid engine’s responsive performance. He says the torque feels instant even when the accelerator pedal is pressed lightly.

“Much nicer for stop-and-go traffic, for everything. The Power mode also feels good; I could even slip in on inclines,” he added.
