Toyota to buy RI engines

TOKYO (Reuter): Toyota Motor Corp is considering importing engines produced by its Indonesian unit this autumn, a Toyota spokesman said yesterday.

The four-cylinder 1,800cc engines would be used in Toyota's Japan-made commercial vehicles. They are now used in Kijang vans made by PT Toyota-Astra Motor, he said without elaborating.

This would mark the first time Toyota has imported engines from any of its Asian subsidiaries. Toyota currently imports 2,200cc engines from its American units.
