Toyota Reveals Surge in Interest for Land Cruiser FJ, Price May Exceed Rp1 Billion
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ has officially made its debut at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026. Although it is not yet officially on sale, enthusiasm has been remarkably high, with many potential customers requesting to be placed on a pre-order list.
Bansar Maduma, Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), explained that the Land Cruiser FJ displayed at GIIAS is currently in a preview status, meaning the company has not yet opened official Vehicle Order Forms (SPK). Meanwhile, the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid, also present at the exhibition, is a refreshed model featuring additional hybrid technology.
“We have two models here; the Land Cruiser 300 is a refreshment with added hybrid technology. As for the LC FJ, it is still in the preview stage at this GIIAS. Therefore, we are not taking official orders yet, but several customers are very insistent on registering their names. We will certainly list them, and once the launch occurs, all dealers will contact those customers,” Bansar stated at GIIAS on Friday (31/07/2026).
Toyota has confirmed that the Land Cruiser FJ will not remain in concept status in Indonesia for long. The company has set a launch schedule for later this year, although an official date has not yet been disclosed.
“The launch plan is coming very soon. We can ensure it will happen within this year,” he said.
The presence of the Land Cruiser FJ at GIIAS is not solely focused on driving sales. Toyota is utilising the exhibition to introduce the product and gather market feedback, which will serve as evaluation material before the official market release. Input from visitors and the dealer network will be used to determine the launch strategy.
“GIIAS is not just about selling vehicles, but also about introducing vehicles and technology. That is why we are showcasing the Land Cruiser FJ first, so we can receive feedback from our customers and dealers regarding their expectations for this product,” he added.
This positive response has translated into continuous consumer interest throughout the exhibition. Toyota is also using the list of prospective buyers as a reference for coordinating production requirements with its principal.
“Many people want to order, but we have not opened official orders yet. We continue to serve customers by listing their names. When the launch happens, dealer frontliners will contact them. We will also monitor supply based on demand, including the names collected at GIIAS, as a consideration for production orders,” said Bansar.
On the other hand, Toyota has declined to reveal the price range for the Land Cruiser FJ. Bansar only emphasised that the SUV is part of the Land Cruiser family, developed with high off-road capabilities, giving it a distinct character compared to other Toyota models. Differences in tax structures between Indonesia and Thailand are also a factor influencing domestic pricing.
“We want to present a price that truly fits the market. However, this is part of the Land Cruiser Series, which is developed to be tougher, with 4x4 capabilities for navigating heavy terrain, and that is reflected in its price. We cannot confirm yet whether it will be below Rp 1 billion or not, as we are still monitoring market feedback through this GIIAS event,” concluded Bansar.
