Toyota Reveals Reason Why Veloz is Now Only Available in Hybrid Version
Since the introduction of the Toyota Veloz Hybrid in Indonesia, Toyota has discontinued the Veloz variant featuring purely conventional internal combustion engine (ICE) technology. Currently, the Veloz is only available with hybrid technology.
This move has drawn significant attention, given that the Low MPV market in Indonesia has traditionally been identified with simple and easy-to-maintain conventional petrol engines. The Marketing Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), Bansar Maduma, stated that the decision was made because Veloz consumers are deemed more open to efficiency and new technologies.
“In essence, Toyota promotes a multi-pathway approach. We understand that every customer’s needs are different, depending on existing conditions, usage, and capabilities. At Toyota, we strive to meet all of them,” said Bansar when met in Central Jakarta on Saturday (16/05/2026).
“One of these is in our MPV lineup, namely the Veloz and Avanza. Looking at the Veloz customer base, they highly appreciate efficiency and technology,” Bansar added.
Consequently, Toyota decided to make the Veloz a model focused on carrying hybrid technology. “Therefore, at that time, we decided that all Veloz models would be hybrid,” he said.
Nevertheless, Toyota continues to provide MPV options with conventional engine technology for consumers who are not yet ready to transition to electrification. “However, for the need of customers who still require ICE technology, we can still fulfil that with the Avanza,” said Bansar.
“And for those looking at a higher segment, we also have the Zenix gasoline,” he added.
Bansar emphasised that Toyota does not intend to offer only one type of technology for all its consumers, as the Indonesian market needs remain highly diverse. “So, we do not only have one technology for our customers; we look at all those needs and fulfil them with different products,” he concluded.
