Toyota prioritises innovation and adaptation for sustainable export performance
PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) is committed to prioritising innovation and the ability to adapt quickly in order to maintain the positive sustainability of its export activities. “The sustainability of export performance is highly dependent on continuous innovation and the ability to adapt to regulatory changes and consumer preferences in various countries,” said TMMIN Vice President Director I Nyoman Winaya Adnyana in a statement in Jakarta on Monday. He further emphasised that a deep understanding of the needs and trends of the international market is an important foundation for the Indonesian automotive industry. Armed with this understanding, he continued, the national automotive industry continues to strive to present relevant and competitive products, while also being able to meet the expectations of global consumers. The positive reception of Toyota Indonesia-manufactured vehicles in the international market is also supported by a product development process that originates from the needs of Indonesian consumers. The Toyota Avanza and Veloz contributed exports of 32,571 units, the Raize 26,082 units, and the Yaris Cross 20,441 units from January to June 2026. The transformation towards low-emission vehicles has also encouraged the company to continue developing national manufacturing capabilities through the production and export of electrified vehicles from Indonesia. Comparing January to June 2026 with the same period the previous year, the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Yaris Cross Hybrid EV recorded growth of 46.4 percent to 12,693 units. Cumulatively from 2023, these two models have been exported to various countries with a total volume exceeding 62,906 units. “Going forward, we will continue to expand market penetration, improve quality standards, and strengthen the portfolio of environmentally friendly technology vehicles,” said I Nyoman Winaya. “The national automotive industry must be at the forefront of facing change and building an electrified vehicle ecosystem capable of meeting the international market’s need for low-emission products, especially in facing the energy transition era,” he added. In line with the evolving mobility needs of the public, Toyota Indonesia is also presenting a variety of vehicle options produced at Toyota facilities in Indonesia through the implementation of a multi-pathway strategy, ranging from Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV). In addition, Toyota is encouraging the development of Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFV) that utilise bioethanol as an alternative fuel. This initiative not only supports decarbonisation efforts in the transportation sector but also opens up opportunities to improve farmers’ welfare through the use of domestic bioethanol raw materials while reducing dependence on fossil fuel imports. “Through these various steps, Toyota Indonesia is optimistic that it can strengthen the foundation for long-term exports while encouraging the development of a national manufacturing ecosystem to be more competitive in seizing opportunities in the global automotive industry,” said I Nyoman Winaya.
