PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) presented the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid EV VX-R and the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid EV GR Sport during the GAIKINDO Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) 2026.

“For 75 years, the Land Cruiser has continued to evolve to listen to feedback and meet increasingly diverse customer needs, without abandoning its core DNA: quality, durability, and reliability. From heavy-duty vehicles to lines offering premium comfort, the Land Cruiser maintains the character and spirit that have been its foundation since the beginning,” said Resha Kusuma Atmaja, Marketing Planning General Manager of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), in a statement released in Jakarta.

Two types were introduced at the GIIAS event: the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid EV VX-R and the Land Cruiser 300 Hybrid EV GR Sport. This series combines a 3.5L V6 Twin-Turbo petrol engine with an electric motor to produce a system output of 457 HP and 790 Nm of torque.

The model utilises a Parallel Hybrid System (PHS) that positions the electric motor between the engine and a 10-speed automatic transmission. This system automatically optimises the combination of engine and electric motor performance through five operating modes: EV Driving, Engine Only, EV Regeneration, Electric Motor + Engine, and Engine Drive + Battery Charge.

Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with Electric Power Steering (EPS) for more precise control, as well as an electrical system with an additional alternator that allows the vehicle to remain operational even if the hybrid system encounters issues.

The battery placement has been adjusted alongside the spare tyre position to ensure off-road capabilities are not compromised. The battery is housed in a waterproof casing, allowing the vehicle to traverse water depths of up to 700 mm without the risk of water entering the cabin.

In terms of design, there are few differences compared to the diesel variants; however, this new variant features a bold, powerful, yet simple design. The signature GR Sport touches are present to reinforce its position as a sporty and classic luxury SUV, while the VX-R features modifications to the front bumper and lower rear section.

The series also includes the Auto-Multi Terrain Select (MTS) feature, which assesses road surface quality and adopts the most appropriate driving mode to control and optimise tyre traction. It offers six adjustable modes based on road conditions: auto, dirt, sand, mud, deep snow, and rock.
