Toyota hybrid car financing: key requirements and down payment details
JAKarta, Kompas.com – Public interest in hybrid vehicles continues to grow in Indonesia. Besides being more fuel-efficient, hybrid cars are increasingly favoured for their environmental friendliness compared to conventional vehicles. However, what are the actual requirements and terms for hybrid car financing? Do they differ from conventional cars? Richard Wang, head of Toyota Astra Financial Services’ marketing department, stated that hybrid vehicle financing follows the same rules as internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. “For hybrid (HEV) financing, there are no specific customer-based regulations different from conventional (ICE) vehicles,” Wang told Kompas.com (28/5/2026). Generally, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) sets a minimum down payment of 10 to 30 per cent, depending on the customer’s profile and leasing policies. Hybrid car down payments start at 10 per cent, but applicants must have a good BI Checking or SLIK OJK record for approval. This strategy is crucial, particularly for hybrid vehicles which typically have higher prices than regular petrol models. Prospective borrowers also need to.prepare personal documents such as ID cards, family cards, tax identification numbers, income proof, and bank statements or payslips. Wang explained that the financing assessment process adheres to prudent principles, including evaluating the customer’s repayment capability. Amidst the recent increase in the benchmark interest rate (BI Rate) to 5.25 per cent, Wang stated there is no certainty yet about a rise in hybrid or other car loan interest rates. “It’s not certain ( rates will increase), we will monitor future conditions regularly. So there may not be rate adjustments tied to the BI Rate hike,” he said. “We observe growing public interest in hybrid vehicles, driven by the need for more efficient and eco-friendly transport. With Toyota’s extensive service network and strong vehicle value, we are optimistic about continued positive growth in Indonesia’s hybrid segment,” he added.
