Toyota expands vocational school development programme reach

PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia has expanded the reach of its vocational school mentoring programme, which includes the provision of vehicle engines as practice equipment for students at vocational secondary schools (SMK).

Having already covered 29 SMKs on the island of Java, the programme run by PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) has now been extended to the island of Lombok.

According to a company press release on Thursday, the expansion was marked by the handover of one Toyota 2TR petrol engine to SMKN 1 Jonggat in Central Lombok and one Toyota 2GD diesel engine to SMKN 2 Kuripan in West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

“This step may appear simple, but we hope it can form part of their journey to grow, create, and contribute in their respective regions,” said TMMIN President Director Nandi Julyanto.

He said the future of Indonesian industry is built from the learning spaces that students occupy today.

The provision of practice equipment and teaching aids is expected to help vocational school students become familiar with engine technologies currently widely used in the automotive industry.

Through the programme, students at the partner schools can learn discipline, efficiency, workplace safety practices, and collaborative working skills in line with industry operational standards.

Support for vocational education is expected to improve the quality of SMK graduates, help meet the manufacturing sector’s workforce needs, and strengthen the competitiveness of the national automotive industry.
