TOWR sees business growth opportunity from Internet Rakyat programme
Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Sarana Menara Nusantara Tbk (TOWR), the Djarum Group’s telecommunications infrastructure company, sees business growth opportunities from the Internet Rakyat (IRA) programme, which offers affordable 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA)-based internet on the 1.4 GHz frequency for the Indonesian public.
TOWR Director Indra Gunawan said the development of FWA technology could increase demand for telecommunications infrastructure, including towers and fibre optic networks, which form part of the company’s business.
“The Fixed Wireless Access granted by the government, whether to Surge (WIFI) or other brands, requires them to use fibre optics as their backbone, as their transmission. That becomes our advantage as well because we own towers and we own fibre,” Indra said at the Public Expose Live 2026 press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Alongside this, he hopes the development of FWA technology can drive wider internet service penetration, thereby benefiting the company and all layers of Indonesian society.
As is known, the government has launched the Internet Rakyat (IRA) programme, operated by PT Telemedia Komunikasi Pratama, a subsidiary of PT Solusi Sinergi Digital Tbk (WIFI), also known as Surge, with support from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi).
“We hope they can also achieve positive penetration, so that it brings benefits to all of us, both to TOWR and to the public. So, we see plenty of room to grow in the context of this industry,” said Indra.
Going forward, Indra said the company also sees opportunities from telecommunications operators’ utilisation of new spectrum, so both opportunities are expected to drive increased demand for towers and fibre optic networks, which are the company’s core businesses.
For context, TOWR currently owns around 36,892 towers and a fibre optic network stretching approximately 182,559 kilometres, as well as supporting infrastructure such as VSAT and submarine cables.
TOWR’s tower tenant count stands at 61,038 with a tenancy ratio of 1.65 times. The company also provides Fiber-to-the-Tower and Fiber-to-the-Home services with around 1.86 million homepasses, as well as connectivity solutions with 28,153 activations across various regions of Indonesia.
In terms of performance, TOWR booked consolidated operational revenue of Rp7.2 trillion in the first half of 2026, up 12.7 per cent year on year (yoy) compared to the same period last year.
The company’s EBITDA was recorded at Rp5.58 trillion, growing 4.8 per cent (yoy) in the first half of 2026, while net profit after minority interests reached Rp1.86 trillion, up 12.4 per cent (yoy).
The company has also recorded long-term contractual revenue of more than Rp100 trillion through to 2045, equivalent to around nine times its revenue in 2025.
Amid its business expansion, the company stated it is maintaining capital discipline and financial flexibility. TOWR has kept its net debt-to-EBITDA ratio below 4 times, with interest costs of around 5.55 per cent throughout 2026.
