Jakarta – The Indonesian National Police’s Traffic Corps (Korlantas Polri) has begun strengthening readiness to sanction over-dimension and over-load (ODOL) vehicles ahead of the government’s target to implement Zero ODOL on 1 January 2027. One step being prepared is to ensure electronic traffic-law enforcement devices (ETLE) are ready to support law enforcement in the field. Head of Operations of Korlantas Polri, Kombes Pol. Aries Syahbudin, stressed the importance of bolstering ODOL handling, which has long been a serious problem in the road-transport sector. ‘All lines in the traffic function have an obligation to succeed in the Zero Over Dimension Over Load programme,’ Aries said in a statement on Monday (18 May 2026). The devices are expected to help monitor vehicles violating dimensional or overweight regulations without fully relying on manual checks in the field. He said several measures have already begun, including installation of ETLE devices to support enforcement against over-dimension over-load vehicles on several road sections. In addition to road damage, ODOL vehicles are also considered to pose a high risk of causing traffic accidents. Therefore, readiness of monitoring and enforcement systems needs to be strengthened now. He also believes handling this issue requires cross-sector collaboration and consistency across all ranks to maintain road safety and order.
