Towards the Recovery Phase, five permanent bridges in Aceh targeted for completion by July
The construction of several permanent bridges in areas affected by hydrometeorological disasters in Aceh continues to show positive progress. The Task Force for Acceleration of Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) Pasca-bencana Sumatera aims to have five strategic permanent bridges in Aceh completed and usable by July 2026 to strengthen connectivity for communities in the post-disaster period. The five bridges are Krueng Tingkeum Bridge in Bireuen Regency, Krueng Meureudu, Ulee Langa, Lawe Mengkudu I, and Pantai Dona. The construction of these bridges forms part of the national infrastructure rehabilitation acceleration for hydrometeorology disaster-affected areas as of late November 2025. One project currently showing significant progress is the Krueng Tingkeum Bridge in Kutablang Sub-district, Bireuen Regency. As of 19 May 2026, the progress of the permanent steel-framed bridge had reached 51 percent. Currently, some steel girder materials have arrived at the project site. In the near future, the work will enter the erection stage, i.e., the installation of steel girders. The erection proceeds from Abutment 1 toward Pier 1, as a key part toward completing the construction. The Commitment Making Official (PPK) 1.3 Balai Pelaksana Jalan Nasional Aceh Isnanda said that all construction stages are progressing in line with the approved work plan. He noted that the progress of the Krueng Tingkeum permanent bridge is currently on track with the planned stages. Isnanda hopes the permanent bridge will improve the comfort and safety of road users on the national route in Bireuen Regency. Previously, access in the area relied on a temporary Bailey bridge that had been repaired several times. “This construction is part of the effort to improve the quality of national road infrastructure so that community activities and logistics distribution can run more safely and smoothly,” he said. In addition to the five bridges targeted for completion by July 2026, a further 14 permanent bridges in Aceh are also undergoing rehabilitation and targeted to be finished by December 2026.
