Towards Sustainable Industry: TMMIN Achieves Gold and Green PROPER Ratings and Top CEO Green Leadership Award
PT Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) continues to contribute not only to economic growth but also to social development and environmental preservation. This initiative has been reaffirmed through the achievements of the Gold PROPER and Green PROPER awards for 2026, organised by the Ministry of Environment. Not only have all TMMIN production facilities located in Karawang, West Java, and Sunter achieved Gold PROPER and Green PROPER, but in PROPER 2026, TMMIN also received the Top CEO Green Leadership accolade, which is held by TMMIN President Director Nandi Julyanto.
Amid global uncertainties and increasing demands from the government and society for more responsible industrial practices, TMMIN has consistently strengthened its role as part of the solution through the implementation of green industry principles. This year, under the KIJANGKU (Green Conservation Saves My Environment) programme. In addition to awards for TMMIN’s production facilities in Karawang and Sunter, TMMIN also successfully achieved Top CEO Green Leadership and Gold PROPER, the highest ranking, for TMMIN Karawang 1 and 2. This achievement continues TMMIN’s positive trend from previous years, where TMMIN Karawang factories 1, 2, and 3 achieved Gold. Meanwhile, TMMIN Karawang 3, TMMIN Sunter 1, and TMMIN Sunter 3 are entitled to Green PROPER.
These awards also embody the company’s leadership in prioritising environmental aspects as one of its strategic priorities. This year, TMMIN also received the Top CEO Green Leadership accolade awarded to TMMIN President Director Nandi Julyanto for initiatives, vision, and strategic decisions supporting environmental sustainability and community empowerment.
Green Leadership is one of the key aspects in achieving and maintaining the Gold PROPER rating. For the 2023–2024 period, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) officially made this criterion part of the PROPER evaluation system. Companies are no longer assessed solely on technical environmental management performance but also on green leadership that drives sustainability transformation at a strategic level.
“Thank you, this award is encouragement for us to continuously apply environmental standards across all our company facilities, so we can contribute to national targets related to the environment and climate change,” said TMMIN President Director Nandi Julyanto.
KIJANGKU Becomes TMMIN’s Flagship Programme
This year, TMMIN submitted the KIJANGKU Programme in the PROPER awards. This programme is tangible proof of TMMIN’s contribution to nature conservation, energy efficiency, and community empowerment. TMMIN Karawang Plants 1 and 2 manage their environmental impacts through a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach to identify and reduce emissions in the manufacturing process. Through the Eko-Inovasi Smart Transforming Chiller System programme, the company improves energy efficiency at key hotspots in the painting unit as part of the transformation towards a low-carbon industry.
This initiative is expanded beyond the factory gate through the KIJANGKU Programme to address abrasion challenges in Pusakajaya Utara Village, Cilebar Subdistrict, Karawang Regency. Together with the community, this programme restores the coast through mangrove rehabilitation, utilisation of used tyre waste into Breakwater Devices (APO), and nature-based economic empowerment solutions.
To date, KIJANGKU has established 14.96 hectares of mangrove conservation area with a 98.6% survival rate, protecting 4.3 hectares of fish ponds, 27 hectares of rice fields, and 76 coastal families. This integrated approach ensures that manufacturing eco-innovations and nature-based social innovations run in harmony—connecting low-carbon industrial transformation with environmental restoration and community welfare.
Green Mobility, Innovation, and Strengthening Environmentally Friendly Supply Chains
TMMIN Vice President Director Bob Azam said the Gold and Green PROPER awards, as well as the 2026 Top CEO Green Leadership accolade for TMMIN, are forms of appreciation for the company’s initiatives in implementing effective and targeted environmental management practices, in line with sustainable development principles.
However, TMMIN not only positions itself as an industry leader through technological innovation and sustainable strategies but also as an automotive company that can operate efficiently without sacrificing environmental quality, including its supply chain.
“The 2026 PROPER award is concrete evidence that high-quality production can go hand in hand with environmental preservation. TMMIN supports Indonesia Emas 2045 through green mobility. This strategic initiative aligns with Toyota’s global vision and Indonesia’s national agenda towards a low-carbon economy, including collaboration with local suppliers to realise an environmentally friendly supply chain,” stated Bob Azam, TMMIN Vice President Director.
