Towards a Global City, Pramono Emphasises the Importance of Lebaran Betawi in Preserving Traditions

JAKARTA — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the organisation of Lebaran Betawi serves as an effort to bolster local traditions amid Jakarta’s transformation towards becoming a global city. This event is also expected to provide a space for Betawi residents to reconnect and strengthen community solidarity. “This event, themed ‘Lebaran Betawi for Jakarta: Strengthening Unity in Preserving Traditions Towards a Global City’, is deliberately held at Lapangan Banteng,” Pramono said after opening the Lebaran Betawi event at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, on Saturday (11/4/2026). Pramono noted that Lebaran Betawi was proposed for the first time to be held at Lapangan Banteng. He assessed that the location could serve as a public space to nurture community togetherness. He also appreciated the smooth running of the event and the organisers, namely the Badan Musyawarah (Bamus) Betawi and Majelis Kaum Betawi. Furthermore, Pramono revealed that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will soon renovate the Museum MH Thamrin on Jalan Kenari, Senen, Central Jakarta. He mentioned that the budget for the renovation is already available. “That will become a new icon for Jakarta. If there are junior high, senior high, or elementary school children planning a study tour to Jakarta, I have asked the Education Department to arrange it,” Pramono stated. On Saturday morning, hundreds of residents crowded the event location to hunt for typical Betawi cuisine such as toge goreng, gado-gado, and kerak telor in the Lapangan Banteng area.
