Tourists Injured in Earthquake, Brimob Evacuates Foreign Nationals to Siloam Hospital

A 7.7-magnitude earthquake that shook East Nusa Tenggara on Saturday (15/8) also impacted West Manggarai Regency. Several tourists in the Labuan Bajo area were reported to have suffered minor injuries after being struck by building materials.

Personnel from Company 1 of Pioneer Battalion B Labuan Bajo were deployed to conduct patrols and assess the earthquake’s impact in several areas, including the Jayakarta Hotel complex in Gorontalo Village, Labuan Bajo.

Company Commander of Pioneer Battalion B Labuan Bajo, IPTU Theodorus B. Boka, said the deployment was carried out following directives from the NTT Regional Police Brimob Unit Commander through the Deputy Battalion Commander.

“After receiving attention from the NTT Police Brimob Commander through the Deputy Battalion Commander, we deployed personnel to carry out disaster standby. Members of Pioneer Battalion B together with Company 1 Labuan Bajo were deployed to conduct patrols and assess the earthquake’s impact in several areas,” said Theodorus.

From the assessment at the Jayakarta Hotel complex, personnel found a number of building damages as well as tourists who suffered minor injuries due to the earthquake.

Specifically in that area, Brimob received information that three foreign nationals were affected. Of the three, two were known to have suffered minor injuries to their knees, nose, and waist after being struck by building materials.

“Of the three people, two suffered minor injuries as far as we know. They were injured by falling building materials,” said Theodorus.

In addition to assisting the injured, Brimob personnel also helped several foreign nationals who were panicking while searching for family members who had already been evacuated to Siloam Hospital Labuan Bajo.

Personnel then helped transport the tourists to the hospital. Meanwhile, others were directed to a monastery based on coordination with hotel management.

“The hotel management also directed them to the monastery. When we arrived at Siloam, it turned out there were already many other victims there,” he said.

Upon arrival at Siloam Hospital, personnel found a number of other victims who had also received medical treatment due to the earthquake.

Brimob subsequently conducted patrols and monitoring at several points to ensure the safety of residents and tourists following the earthquake.

“We will continue to patrol and provide assistance to affected residents and tourists. This is part of the humanitarian effort in Operation Aman Nusa,” Theodorus stressed.

Brimob personnel were also placed on standby to assist with evacuation if more residents or tourists are found in need of help due to the earthquake’s impact.

As of 15.00 WITA, at least 33 people were reported dead in the Greater Manggarai region, namely East Manggarai, Manggarai, and West Manggarai Regencies.

Temporary death tolls were recorded at 3 people in Sikka Regency, 6 people in Manggarai Regency, and 5 people in East Manggarai Regency.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Nagekeo, NTT on Saturday (15/8/2026). One person died after being crushed by rubble at Lauren Say Port in Maumere.

BNPB’s current priority is to ensure public safety and prevent additional casualties from tsunami earthquakes, aftershocks, and secondary hazards.

The earthquake in NTT affected a number of transportation facilities and infrastructure, including Laurentius Say Port, Reo Port, Nangakeo Port, and Komodo Airport.

Gibran stressed that the government will ensure the entire disaster management process is carried out quickly and in a coordinated manner.
