Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Sub-Directorate of Tourism and Creative Economy for the Thousand Islands Regency stated that the rising number of tourist visits to the island area during the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah holiday is driving economic growth for the local community.

“The increase in tourist visits is expected to boost the creative economy growth of the local community,” said the Head of the Sub-Directorate of Tourism and Creative Economy for the Thousand Islands, Sonti Pangaribuan, in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The agency is committed to continuously introducing innovations and updates to ensure that this pride of Jakarta’s tourism destination continues to develop.

“We also invite the public to enjoy the natural beauty of the Thousand Islands while still preserving the conservation of this tourism area,” Sonti said.

According to him, on Saturday (21/3), 3,123 tourists crossed from the mainland to the island region. The number increased on Sunday (22/3) to 7,743 tourists arriving in the Thousand Islands.

He said that the Eid holiday momentum is always utilised by the community to go on holiday with their families. “We predict the number of tourists will continue to increase in the coming days,” he stated.

Sonti said the tourists arrived through several main entry points, including the Baywalk Mall Pier, Muara Angke Pier, and Tanjung Pasir Pier.

Inhabited islands, he said, remain the favourite locations for tourists, such as Pari Island, Tidung Island, Pramuka Island, and Untung Jawa Island.

“We continue to urge visitors to always maintain cleanliness and safety while in the tourism area. The active role of visitors is very important in maintaining the comfort of the destination,” he said.
