Tourist Visits to Indonesia Hit 7-Year High, Largest Contribution from Malaysia

The number of international tourist arrivals to Indonesia in July 2026 has hit a five-year high.

Data from the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that international visits reached 1.53 million in July 2026. This figure represents a monthly increase of 9.99% compared to June 2026 and a year-on-year growth of 2.95%.

The 1.53 million visits represent the highest level since August 2019, or within the last seven years.

Notably, the June-September period is one of Indonesia’s peak tourism seasons, coinciding with the summer holidays in Europe and America, with July and August typically serving as the peak period when international arrivals surge.

Cumulatively, from January to July 2026, total international visits reached 8.98 million, an increase of 5.23% compared to the same period in 2025.

“The achievement of international visits from January to July 2026 is the highest since 2020,” said Ateng Hartono, Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics at BPS, during a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday (1/9/2026).

Malaysia Emerges as the Largest Contributor of Tourists

Based on country of origin by passport, Malaysia was the largest source of international tourists in July 2026, contributing 15.00%, or approximately 228,710 visits.

Australia ranked second with a contribution of 12.34%, equivalent to about 188,250 visits. This was followed by China with a contribution of 10.28%, or approximately 156,570 visits.

Visits from Chinese tourists recorded a surge of 33.4% compared to June 2026. Meanwhile, arrivals from Australia increased by 12.39% on a monthly basis.
