A tourist vehicle fell through a wooden bridge while heading to Cemare Beach in Lembar Selatan Village, Lembar District, West Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Residents are urging the West Lombok Regency Government to immediately repair the wooden bridge, as its condition has been concerning for a long time.

The head of Cemare Hamlet, Munawir, revealed that the front tyre of the Daihatsu Gran Max vehicle plunged through a gap in the broken wooden bridge on Sunday (5/7). Munawir stated the accident occurred because the bridge’s wooden planks were rotten.

‘Because the wood had been rotten for a long time and was impacted by the constant traffic of vehicles,’ Munawir said on Monday (6/7/2026).

According to Munawir, the damage disrupts access for residents and tourists heading to Cemare Beach. However, they have not yet dared to close the access point for fear of affecting tourist visits, especially as the school holiday season is currently underway.

‘If we restrict tourists, we would also be in the wrong. Let alone stopping things like this, it would be a boomerang for the tourist area as well,’ Munawir remarked.

As an emergency measure, residents took the initiative to repair the bridge themselves to prevent similar incidents from happening again. Munawir explained that the community worked together, donating wood and money, while the village government would help cover the labour costs.

‘For now, our anticipation is to just work on it as we go,’ he explained.

Munawir expressed regret over the lack of permanent bridge construction by the West Lombok Regency Government. He stressed that a permanent bridge needs to be built immediately to ensure safe access to Cemare Beach.

‘Actually, the officials know about the bridge’s condition, but why are they not taking action? The council members also know about this. We are also confused,’ Munawir lamented.

‘If there is no budget for bridge construction, at least carry out maintenance or repairs on the bridge,’ he concluded.
