Tourist Surge Prompts Bandung Police Chief to Directly Address Traffic Congestion on Pacira Route
The density of vehicle traffic heading towards the Pasirjambu, Ciwidey, and Rancabali (Pacira) tourist areas prompted Bandung City Police Chief Kombes Aldi Subartono to take direct action in the field on Monday (23/3) afternoon. On-site observations showed the police chief walking amidst the heavy traffic flow, dominated by two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles heading to the tourist destinations.
His presence was to ensure that the dispersal of congestion proceeded optimally. This traffic density was triggered by the increased mobility of tourists taking advantage of the Eid holiday to visit the Pacira area, which is indeed one of the favourite destinations in Bandung Regency.
Due to the overwhelming number of tourists heading to Pacira, the Traffic Unit of Bandung City Police implemented traffic engineering in the form of situational one-way systems several times to ease the congestion.
Field officers were seen manually regulating traffic flow, including prioritising vehicles from certain directions to speed up movement. Meanwhile, other personnel were on guard at several vulnerable points to anticipate vehicle build-ups.
Bandung City Police Chief Kombes Aldi Subartono emphasised that they had prepared several anticipatory measures, including situational traffic engineering and placement of personnel at crucial points.
“We are taking direct action to ensure the flow keeps moving and total congestion does not occur. The arrangements are done situationally based on the vehicle volume in the field,” he stated.
He also urged drivers to continue complying with officers’ directions and maintaining order during their journeys to the tourist areas.
