Tourist Sites Around Bromo Remain Safe to Visit Despite TNBTS Access Closure

The Probolinggo Regency Government, through its Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office (Disporapar), has confirmed that a number of tourist destinations around the Mount Bromo area remain safe for visitors. The statement was issued following the closure of access to the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) due to forest and land fires (karhutla).

Head of Disporapar Probolinggo Regency, Heri Mulyadi, explained that although four official entry gates to the core area of Mount Bromo have been closed since Saturday (8/8) at 22.00 WIB, tourist attractions outside the fire-affected zone are still operating normally.

Based on field monitoring carried out by the Disporapar team, several strategic tourist spots in the Probolinggo Regency area have been confirmed as unaffected by the fire hotspots. Heri Mulyadi stressed that the distance between the fire hotspots in the TNBTS area and these tourist locations is still relatively far. “For these several tourist destinations, conditions today are still safe and still possible for tourists to visit,” he said in Probolinggo, Sunday (9/8/2026).

Although currently declared safe, the Probolinggo Regency Government does not want to be complacent. Disporapar, together with relevant parties, continues to closely monitor the development of the forest fire situation on the ground. The safety, comfort, and peace of mind of tourists are the top priorities in subsequent policy-making.

Heri added that the government does not rule out the possibility of imposing visit restrictions or a total closure if the situation changes significantly. “If at any time there are changes and developments in the field, it is possible that it will also be closed if it disrupts safety,” he stressed.

Tourists planning to visit the Probolinggo area are advised to keep updating information through official regional government channels or Disporapar Probolinggo Regency’s social media to anticipate changes in visit status due to weather and forest fire conditions.

The restriction measures prepared by the government are a form of early anticipation to protect the public and tourists from the potential dangers of smoke and fire spread. Cross-sectoral coordination continues to be strengthened to ensure that the handling of forest fires in the TNBTS area does not spread to residential areas or other public facilities.
