The Head of the Probolinggo Regency Youth, Sports and Tourism Office (Disporapar), Heri Mulyadi, stated that tourist destinations around Mount Bromo are still safe to visit. Access to the Mount Bromo area from four official entry points has been closed since Saturday (8/8) at 22.00 WIB due to a fire, but several tourist attractions in the Probolinggo Regency area near Bromo remain in a safe condition for visitors. Based on field monitoring, attractions such as the Bromo Glass Bridge, Seruni Point Peak, and the Seruni Point Tourism Terminal are still safe, as the fire hotspots in the Bromo area are considered to be quite far from these locations. “For these several tourist destinations, conditions today are still safe and it is still possible for tourists to visit,” he said in Probolinggo on Sunday. However, if the forest and land fire situation in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) changes and begins to threaten or disrupt the tourist attraction areas in Probolinggo Regency, the government does not rule out the possibility of imposing visit restrictions. “Today it is still safe to visit, but if at any time there are changes and developments in the field, it is possible that it will also be closed if it disrupts security, comfort, and tranquillity,” he added. Heri stated that restriction measures would be taken as a form of anticipation if the situation develops and has the potential to endanger tourists or the community around the tourist attractions. The Probolinggo Regency Disporapar, together with relevant parties, will continue to monitor the development of the forest and land fires, with security conditions being the main consideration in determining policies related to tourist visit activities at a number of destinations in the Probolinggo Regency area.
