Tourism Safety Programme Focuses on Creating Secure Tourism Ecosystem
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Spokesperson for the Ministry of Tourism, Nia Niscable, stated that the ‘Tourism Safety Enhancement’ programme is focused on creating a safe, sustainable, and globally competitive tourism ecosystem.
“The Ministry of Tourism has positioned the Tourism Safety Enhancement programme as one of the five flagship programmes for 2026,” Nia told ANTARA in Jakarta on Friday.
Nia explained that realising a safe and sustainable tourism ecosystem will be achieved through upskilling and reskilling activities for tour guides to increase preparedness in conducting extreme tourism activities.
In this regard, the Ministry of Tourism is organising several activities, such as competency-based training and certification for tour guides, providing education for tourists, developing safety guidelines and modules for business actors, mapping disaster-prone destinations, and adjusting ‘live on-board’ regulations.
The Ministry of Tourism is also strengthening destination governance by addressing the ‘3A’ issues (Attractions, Amenities, and Accessibility) and increasing safety standards at tourism destinations in collaboration with relevant agencies, local governments, and tourism stakeholders.
As a reinforcement, she revealed that in 2025, the Ministry of Tourism, through the Deputy for Destination and Infrastructure Development, issued Technical Guideline Number JUKNIS/2/HK.01.04/D.2/2025 regarding the Implementation of Risk Management in Tourism Destinations.
This technical guideline serves as a reference for destination managers to perform hazard identification, risk assessment, mitigation, monitoring, and systematic reporting.
“Thus, the strengthening of tourism safety is directed not only towards handling incidents when they occur, but also towards prevention from the outset through risk mapping, human resource readiness, safety facilities, emergency procedures, and periodic evaluations of the Attraction, Amenity, and Accessibility elements,” said Nia.
Previously, Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana also explained that the tourism safety enhancement programme is aimed at strengthening the preparedness of tourism actors, particularly for high-risk or extreme tourism activities.
These efforts are carried out through competency-based training and certification for tour guides to improve their ability to prevent and provide initial handling of emergency situations.
Other flagship programmes of the Ministry of Tourism being implemented this year include the development of tourism villages, quality tourism, ‘Event by Indonesia’, and ‘Tourism 5.0’, which in 2026 will focus on strengthening digitalisation, particularly regarding activity permit processes.
