The Ministry of Tourism is working to strengthen event organisation in order to boost interest among both international and domestic tourists in visiting various regions. Ministry spokesperson Nia Niscaya stated in Jakarta on Wednesday that the Ministry of Tourism has positioned the Event by Indonesia programme as one of five flagship programmes for 2026. “The organisation of quality events characteristic of Indonesia will raise the country’s profile on the global stage across various topics, including sports tourism,” Nia said. She noted that 125 festivals, carnivals, cultural performances, and creative activities within the 2026 Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) calendar, taking place throughout the year across all 38 provinces, have become a draw for distributing tourist visits to different regions. The International Event by Indonesia programme aims to increase foreign tourist arrivals and enhance Indonesia’s position on the global event hosting stage, whilst the National Event by Indonesia programme seeks to increase domestic tourist travel by using events as an attraction and improving the quality of national event execution. This assistance is provided through curation, evaluation of previous events, strengthening event quality, promotional support, and synergy with various stakeholders to make events more competitive and capable of attracting more tourists. “In this collaboration, the Ministry is also encouraging the development of events with significant potential to increase tourist visits,” Nia said. “Through this synergy, the Ministry of Tourism is pushing for each event to not only become an annual agenda but also to increase tourist visits and deliver economic impact for local communities,” she added.
