JAKARTA - Tourism Ministry Spokesperson Nia Niscaya has invited the Indonesian Music Promoters Association (APMI) and the Indonesian Travel Companies Association (ASITA) to collaborate on creating attractive travel packages themed around K-Pop idol groups holding concerts in Indonesia. Nia assessed that K-Pop-themed travel packages could attract more foreign tourists to Indonesia. She said the national tourism industry needs to view the numerous K-Pop concerts being held as an opportunity to drive the tourism sector. The Tourism Ministry sees international concerts as a driver of tourism events that provide a significant economic impact on the tourism sector, as well as a good moment to promote tourist destinations on a global level. “K-Pop concerts in Jakarta provide large profits, in the form of money circulation spent by thousands of spectators to buy concert tickets, accommodation (hotels), food and beverages, transportation and communication, as well as buying souvenirs, including merchandise,” Nia said. She conveyed that the circulation of money will, among other things, enter the country in the form of taxes, concert entertainment tax and consumption taxes such as hotels, food and beverages, and merchandise purchases, as well as venue rental to state asset management companies. “Through this collaboration, it is hoped that tourists will not only come to watch the concert, but also extend their length of stay and increase tourist spending, thus providing a broader economic multiplier effect,” she said. “The consideration is that Indonesia is the largest market for the music concert industry in the ASEAN region and has a large fan base for world musicians with various genres such as K-Pop, jazz, rock, hip hop, and R&B,” she added. On the other hand, she also conveyed that the Tourism Ministry is open to cooperation opportunities with Indonesian K-Pop idols to promote the beauty of the country’s tourism on a global level.
