Tourism Ministry Accelerates Halal Certification in 1,500 Tourism Villages
The Ministry of Tourism has strengthened collaboration with the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) to accelerate halal certification for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) across 1,500 tourism villages nationwide. By the end of May 2026, the partnership has issued tens of thousands of halal certificates to boost national tourism quality.
“This collaboration has produced 31,548 halal certificates across 1,116 tourism villages in 34 provinces,” said Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana while inspecting the halal certification handover at Jatimulyo Tourism Village in Kulon Progo Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta, on Sunday, 31 May 2026.
During the working visit with BPJPH Chief Haikal Hasan, he explained that this acceleration programme is a concrete step towards delivering quality, inclusive tourism that ensures safety and comfort for visitors.
The synergy programme was initially piloted in 20 tourism villages in July 2025. After observing positive impacts, the initiative was significantly expanded by late 2025 to cover 1,500 villages nationwide. In Jatimulyo Tourism Village, Kulon Progo Regency, 123 business operators with 139 MSME products have officially received halal certification as of 30 May 2026.
According to Widiyanti, holding a halal certificate is not merely an administrative requirement but a crucial part of product quality enhancement, building tourist confidence, and expanding economic benefits for local communities. The Ministry of Tourism also expressed appreciation to BPJPH, local governments, tourism village managers, and MSMEs for their continued commitment to the programme.
“Moving forward, this cross-sectoral synergy will be further strengthened to ensure Indonesian tourism villages are more competitive, sustainable, and deliver tangible welfare benefits for the wider community,” she added.
Meanwhile, Kulon Progo Regent Agung Setyawan thanked the halal certification for MSMEs in Kulon Progo. He stated that halal certificates bolster tourist confidence by ensuring that all food served and its preparation methods meet halal standards.
“This will increase trust and sustain the influx of tourists to tourism destinations in Kulon Progo and the Special Region of Yogyakarta,” he added.
