US financial crisis has impact on Bali`s economy
Denpasar (Antara News) - The US financial crisis which had developed into a global crisis has caused an unfavourable impact on Bali`s economy.
"The US financial crisis also posed an disincentive to Bali`s economy as a whole," Head of the Bank Indonesia branch office in Denpasar Viraguna Bagoes Oka said in a two-day training of 35 journalists in Candidasa area, Karangasem district, Bali, on Sunday.
According to him, the crisis really affected Bali as marked with a decline in tourist arrivals at that island resort.
The interest of the international community in overseas travel has become low. This condition will remain until the global economy returns to normal.
Furthermore, he said that a drop in tourist arrivals really affected the tourism sector which has been a primary source of income for the people of Bali.
Since the outbreak of the financial crisis, the Bali government should start anticipating by making various efforts and breakthroughs with a view to normalizing Bali`s economy.
Other impacts that should be taken into account include a drop in Bali`s exports to the US, Japan, Italy, Singapore and Germany.
60 Percent of Bali`s exports went to the US. If the economic condition in the US is unfavourable, it would also affect Bali`s economy, Viraguna said. (*)
