Tourism Industry Expresses Fear Over Impacts of Jakarta Bombing

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Hotel Association in Yogyakarta one of the main tourist attraction in Java predicted that hotel occupancy rate in Yogyakarta to slip by 5-10 percent after the bombings in Jakarta which killed nine people an injured around 60 others.

Head of Yogyakarta chapter of Hotel and Restaurants Association, Istijab appealed for security support from police. ”We will emphasize surveillance and security at four and five star hotels as most foreign tourists stay there.” We will request the police special squad Mobile Brigade to assign two personnels at every star-rated hotel.

The bombings were proven to have direct influence to tourism industry as 11 leisure trips to Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, were cancelled. Head of Lombok – Sumbawa Tourism Promotional Board Misbach Mulyadi said travel agents of recreational boat trips from Singapore have been cancelled. Other tourism association in the region also feared number of tourist visits through air transport would decrease.
