Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, who also serves as Deputy Head of BKPM, Todotua Pasaribu, has emphasised that downstreaming is not only relevant to the mineral, oil and gas, and agricultural sectors. According to Todotua, Indonesia possesses considerable strength in the tourism sector.

Tourism downstreaming means encouraging investment oriented towards creating added value, whether in terms of tourism products, facilities, or local economic impact. However, he acknowledged that tourism is a sector requiring long-term investment and carrying high risk.

A number of incentives have also been prepared, ranging from streamlined licensing, tax incentives, to the provision of supporting infrastructure. These measures have been taken to ensure the tourism sector is capable of attracting quality and sustainable investment.
