Tourism destinations to be provided with cleanliness management funding

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Tourism is working to ensure that tourist destinations can receive government assistance funds for cleanliness management. “This year, we are working on our government assistance (banper),” stated Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa during a working meeting between the Ministry of Tourism and Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) in Jakarta on Wednesday.

She noted that the Ministry of Tourism is coordinating with relevant ministries to address waste management and cleanliness issues at tourist destinations. According to the Deputy Minister, the Ministry has already identified tourist areas facing waste management challenges that need to be prioritised for government aid.

Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Bayu Aji, stated that the Ministry has received an allocation of government assistance funds to support cleanliness efforts in tourist areas. “There is a small amount of government assistance, but it is currently blocked by the Ministry of Finance as the Government Work Plan (RKP) has not yet been finalised; we are currently working towards a revision of the 2026 RKP,” he said. He added that the funds cannot be disbursed yet, pending the Presidential Regulation for the RKP refinement.

The estimated value of the disburseable assistance funds is approximately Rp4.6 billion. This allocation is intended for tourism accessibility and connectivity, specifically covering roads and waste management.

The Deputy Chair of Commission VII of the DPR RI, Chusnunia Chalim, emphasised the necessity of providing waste management facilities and infrastructure for tourist destinations. If possible, she suggested that the Ministry of Tourism utilise unabsorbed funds to be redirected to the Clean Tourism Movement (GWB).

“The Deputy Minister just mentioned that work is currently being carried out at 14 points, supported by cleaning equipment, similar to last year’s scale,” she said. She further urged the Ministry to take a more orchestrating role and utilise internal ministerial funds more effectively to avoid cross-sectoral delays. She also encouraged the government to enhance supporting facilities for tourism services, including toilets and waste bins, stating, “We hope the Ministry of Tourism allocates adequate funds for infrastructure at tourist destinations.”
