Tourism destination managers urged to prepare for school holiday surge
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Tourism Ni Luh Puspa has requested tourism destination managers to prepare for an increase in visitor numbers during the school holiday period, spanning from mid-June to July 2027.
“We hope all tourism stakeholders can continue to collaborate to provide destinations that are safe, comfortable, and high-quality, so that tourists can enjoy their holidays peacefully and leave with a positive impression of Indonesian tourism,” she stated in a ministry press release confirmed in Jakarta on Saturday.
While inspecting Waterbom Bali on Friday (5/6), she noted that the school holiday period represents a crucial momentum for national tourism. During this period, domestic tourist movement is expected to increase significantly.
Consequently, the government is striving to ensure that the safety, security, and comfort of tourists are prioritised in the delivery of tourism services during the school holidays. The government has requested all destination managers to ensure that supporting infrastructure and facilities are functioning properly during the surge in visits.
Ni Luh stated that the school holidays should be utilised to demonstrate the quality of destination management. Therefore, it is vital for managers to prepare infrastructure, visitor management, risk mitigation, the implementation of safety standards, waste management, and human resources to provide a safe and comfortable experience.
Training programmes include high-risk activities such as mountain tourism, water tourism, rafting, and snorkelling. The Ministry of Tourism has also developed the Indonesian National Work Competency Standards (SKKNI), which regulate service standards from the travel planning stage until tourists return from their destinations.
“This document can be utilised by various stakeholders, including the tourism industry, to ensure destination readiness in meeting the aspects of tourist safety, security, and comfort,” said the Deputy Minister of Tourism.
Sayan Gulino, CEO of Waterbom Bali, stated that they have prepared for the surge in visitors by ensuring all facilities and supporting infrastructure are functional and by organising visitor management.
“With good capacity management, visitors will not need to queue for too long, locker availability will remain adequate, and the cleanliness of toilets and public facilities will be maintained,” he said. “In facing the high season, we will remain disciplined in maintaining visitor capacity according to the established standards,” he added.
