Tour Bus Catches Fire on Cipali Tollway

A tour bus with registration number AA 7521 OF, travelling from Cirebon towards Jakarta, caught fire at kilometre 95B on the Cipali Tollway at approximately 16:50 on Sunday, 15 March. There were no fatalities from the incident.

According to the Head of the Highway Patrol Unit at the Traffic Directorate of West Java Police, Aries Riyanto, initial examination of bus driver Feri Gumilar revealed that sparks erupted from the engine compartment whilst the vehicle was passing kilometre 95.800B. The driver immediately pulled the bus onto the roadside shoulder to extinguish the fire using a portable fire extinguisher. However, the flames spread rapidly through the interior of the bus, completely destroying the vehicle.

“The vehicle was travelling from Cirebon to Jakarta. Upon discovering the sparks, I moved the bus to the roadside to put out the fire, but it spread quickly and destroyed the bus,” Aries Riyanto stated.

No casualties occurred because the bus was carrying only the driver, conductor, and assistant conductor. The fire was extinguished at 17:25 after firefighting teams from Subang District Government arrived at the scene. The burnt-out bus was subsequently evacuated to kilometre 92 on the Cipali Tollway.
