Tough challenges ahead

The Army leadership change from Gen. Wismoyo Arismunandar to
Gen. R. Hartono on Monday vividly reflects the transition period
that the nation is entering.

This is the beginning of the second 25-year development period
and also a time of leadership changes.

The nation is being transformed into an industrial country
thanks to its continued economic growth in the first 25 years of
development. Today, a more critical citizenry has been created.

We are on our way to a world of globalization where
interdependence among nations is greater. This fact alone will
produce a new, dynamic vision for mankind.

We are aware that the challenges facing the nation are more
complex, more difficult and more strenuous and hope the young
generation of leaders will be successful in carrying out their
tasks and overcoming their challenges.

In addition, we hope they will improve and correct whatever
mistakes were committed by their predecessors.
