Touchscreen OLED MacBook Pro may be lighter
Apple is reportedly developing the latest generation of MacBook Pro, which will not only feature an OLED display panel with touchscreen capabilities but will also be lighter than its predecessor.
This news was first revealed by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, as reported by Engadget on Sunday (4/10) local time. According to him, the lighter weight of the MacBook Pro could be achieved after Apple redesigns the laptop’s internals by shrinking component sizes and rearranging internal parts.
While there is no clarity yet regarding the internal configuration of the touchscreen MacBook Pro, recent reports suggest the device will utilise high-end M5 chips, which are expected to be released in early 2026, rather than the M7 chips anticipated for 2027.
Currently, MacBook Pro models weigh between 1.5 kilograms for the 14-inch model and up to 2.1 kilograms for the 16-inch version.
The new MacBook Pro, which may be unveiled in the near future, could represent a significant milestone in hardware development under the leadership of John Ternus as Apple’s hardware lead. Unlike his predecessor, who was known for expertise in supply chain and logistics management, Ternus appears to be returning a greater focus to product design.
Given his experience as a hardware engineer, aesthetics and design are becoming crucial elements in product development. Gurman further added in his report that one of John Ternus’s primary priorities is rebuilding a design team that reports directly to him.
