Touching Scene as East Lombok Police Detainee Holds Wedding Vows in Cell

A groom in East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), held his wedding vows from behind bars. The emotional ceremony was witnessed by family members of both the bride and groom. The groom, identified by the initials RK, who is currently a detainee at the East Lombok Police Resort, exchanged vows with his beloved, NP, on Tuesday (7/7/2026). The solemn procession was conducted under police guard. Head of Public Relations for the East Lombok Police, First Inspector Lalu Rusmaladi, stated that the police granted permission for the ceremony as a form of respect for the basic rights of every citizen, including those undergoing legal proceedings. “Granting this permission is a demonstration of the East Lombok Police’s commitment to providing humane service, without disregarding the ongoing legal process,” he said on Wednesday (8/7/2026). The marriage ceremony proceeded smoothly and safely. The procession was witnessed by family members and fellow detainees. In accordance with procedure, the ceremony was held under police security. Rusmaladi assessed that the fulfilment of civil rights, such as marriage, is part of service delivery that prioritises humanitarian values. According to him, despite being a detainee, every citizen retains protected rights as long as their exercise does not conflict with legal provisions. The wedding ceremony is expected to encourage the groom as he undergoes the legal process and serve as motivation for self-improvement. “The opportunity to marry can encourage the groom to undergo the legal process well and serve as a starting point for improving his life after completing his sentence,” said Rusmaladi.
