Total Power Outage Across Riau, West Sumatra, North Sumatra and Aceh

Power outages struck several areas across Sumatra, including parts of Aceh Province, West Sumatra, the Riau Islands, North Sumatra and Riau on Friday evening, 22 May 2026. PLN, in a statement, said disruptions have caused the North Sumatra and Central Sumatra systems to be separated, resulting in power supply outages in a number of areas. ‘We apologise for the inconvenience. Interim information at 18:44 WIB: the North Sumatra-Central Sumatra system is separated and North Sumatra is completely offline,’ PLN said in a statement received in Pekanbaru on Friday night. PLN noted the disruption occurred on the 150 kV transmission and generation sides. At present, technical teams are working to restore the electricity system. ‘Our teams are working to restore the system as quickly as possible so that the system can return to normal,’ PLN added. PLN also stated that the extent of the load affected by the outage is still being tallied. The company apologised to customers for the disruption. As of this report, several areas in Pekanbaru City and other parts of Riau Province were still experiencing power outages.
