Total Indonesie, Indonesia's largest gas producer
Total Indonesie, Indonesia's largest gas producer
Total Indonesie is the largest gas producer in Indonesia after
the production start up of the Peciko field. With certified gas
reserves of 6.2 TCF, equivalent to 1.2 billion barrels of oil,
Peciko ranks among the top gas fields discovered worldwide in the
past 10 years.
Initial production started at 400 mmscfd and quickly increased
to 800 mmscfd of gas with about 16,000 b/d of condensate. At this
level, overall hydrocarbon production is 150,000 barrels of oil
equivalent per day.
The Peciko field is situated offshore East Kalimantan. Gas is
treated onshore at the Senipah terminal and sent to the Bontang
liquefaction plant. Bontang's eighth liquefaction train was
commissioned last November, increasing the plant's total annual
capacity to 26 million metric tons, making it the world's largest
LNG plant to date.
This has also reinforced East Kalimantan's position as
Indonesia's most prolific gas province, with reserves reaching
51.8 TCF, of which 19.5 TCF are still uncommitted.
The Peciko project was launched in 1996 to increase Total
Indonesie gas production capacity corresponding to new gas
commitments. Production began in December. On Jan. 7, the first
two-Manifold Wellhead Platforms came on line.
Peciko field's current development phase I has reached its
targeted production. The next stage of field development will
comprise installing a third offshore wellhead platform and
drilling nine additional development wells, increasing the
field's maximum potential to 1,000 mmscfd. Phase II should be
completed by the end of 2001.
To meet Total Indonesie's contractual obligations in the East
Kalimantan gas supply scheme, it is planned by 2004 to further
increase the maximum deliverability of the field up to 1,300
mmscfd and its average rate up to 950 mmscfd.
Total Indonesie, incorporated in August 1968, is a wholly
owned subsidiary of TotalFina Elf, an integrated enterprise with
operations across the entire oil and gas chain, from upstream
exploration, development of reserves and production to downstream
transportation, global trading, refining, petrochemicals
production and oil product marketing.
Total Indonesie is in partnership with state-owned oil company
Pertamina as a production-sharing contractor in the search for
and development of Indonesia's vast hydrocarbon reserves.
