Tortured woman found in Bekasi

BEKASI, West Java (JP): Local residents found a young woman with bruises on her face and body lying unconscious on the street early yesterday.

Police officers who came to the site after receiving a report from witnesses, took the woman, later identified as Marsinah, 21, to the Bekasi General Hospital for medical treatment.

According to an officer at the Bekasi police precinct, Marsinah is a resident of Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta.

"She was a victim of torture and might have been sexually assaulted," said the police officer.

Police allowed Marsinah to go home yesterday afternoon after she regained consciousness and had received medical attention. She appeared bewildered and was closed-mouthed when questioned by reporters who were curious about what had happened to her.

However, according to a police source Marsinah had a heated argument with her boyfriend in a car. The man, the source said, beat Marsinah repeatedly before throwing her out of the car. (kod).
