Torpedo-like Object Found Floating in NTB Waters with Chinese Script
A foreign object resembling a torpedo was found floating in the waters of Gili Trawangan, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). The object was first spotted by fishermen while they were casting their nets. “Due to its suspicious nature, the object was then pulled and brought to the shoreline,” said North Lombok Police Chief AKBP Agus Purwanta, as quoted by detikBali on Tuesday (7/4/2026). The object was discovered on Monday (6/4) in waters 16 kilometres north of Gili Trawangan. Physically, the object has striking specifications. It is about 3.7 metres long with a diameter of 70 centimetres, cylindrical in shape resembling a torpedo with features common to underwater observation or survey devices. Officers also found a ‘CSIC’ label on the body. The lower part of the object also features Chinese script. “This strengthens the suspicion that it is a marine technology device,” he said. Agus stated that the object has been checked using the Kerber T explosive detection device and the RIIDEye X radioactive detector. The results showed no indication of direct threats. The object does not contain explosives or radioactive materials.
